2009 In Review

I have seen year reviews on a few blogs and thought it was a cute idea. So here is the 2009 Gillespie Review with links to the posts if you're really bored, enjoy!

January-Found out we were pregnant, Chris turned 26 and we went to Vegas
February- Chris got a tattoo, and we had our first doctor appointment
March- Found out we were having a BOY (slow month)
April-Found out Chris' older sister Kim was pregnant with #2, and lost my great aunt Gladys
May-Went to San Diego, and welcomed my brother home from his mission
June-Chris went to Niagra Falls, and celebrated 4 wonderful years of marriage
July-Did 4D photos of Conner, went on a camping trip (no link, sorry), found out I had gestational diabetes and celebrated the 4th of July
August-Finished the nursery and took Maternity photos
September-Welcomed Baby Conner to the world!
October-Conner had his 1st Halloween and we played with Conner
November-Blessed Conner and watched The Utes get beat by BYU (we did win our bowl game though, Go Utes!).
December-Welcomed Baby Emily into the world and celebrated Conner's first Christmas!

We had a lot of ups and downs this year, mostly ups, and are very excited for whatever 2010 brings us. I think we are most excited to watch Conner grow! I think that each step is the most exciting one so I'm sure you will see lots of posts about him. Chris could possibly be traveling out of the country next year so we are anxious to see if that happens. And we are hoping to take a couple of vacations in 2010 as well.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Purse

This is my new purse! I love, love , love it! But that's not what my post is about.

A little old man was walking down the hall at my work today carrying his wife's purse. She was on crutches and unable to carry her purse, so he was carrying it for her. He almost dropped it and said, "I almost dropped my purse!" This made me think of Chris. He hates to carry my purse but does it occasionally for me. He also does many other things for me that I know he hates to do. But he does them because he loves me! And I hope that when we are 80 years old and I'm on crutches he will carry my purse because he still loves me!

I love you babe!

Sleep

With me going back to work our schedules have changed in the past couple of weeks. Conner has been waking up at 4am almost every day and that really can't happen. I have to get up at 5:30am to get ready for work. We usually go to bed around 10pm so it's not like we put him to bed super early. He also usually sleeps in his swing or in our bed (don't judge me). I want him to start sleeping in his crib though. Does anyone have any adivce for me or tips?

3 Months/Life

Conner is 3 months old! I can't believe how quick 3 months can fly by, but it has. I was looking at some pictures of the day Conner was born and don't really remember him being that little (sad). He is growing and changing so much every day. I wish that I could freeze time but at the same
time love to see him learn new things each day.

At 3 months Conner-
Loves to smile!
Is "talking" all the time
Loves it when I sing to him (even though I suck at singing)
Loves to watch me, whatever I'm doing
No longer has the eye boogie problem
Still sleeps with his hands by his face
Is wearing size 1 diapers
Loves to watch TV (Favs are Playhouse Disney, football with Dad, Holmes on Homes)
Holds onto his toys very well
Loves to hold his dads finger while drinking a bottle
Loves to put everything in his mouth
Is grabbing at things mostly with his left hand. I think he will be a leftie.
Is precious!

In other news...I returned to work this past week. It has been rough adjusting to leaving Conner all day. I'm hoping that next week will be better. Chris had knee surgery 2 weeks ago and is recovering well. His leg has started to bruise and swell (which is good). He has not really had to use crutches and is walking pretty well. We are excited for our first Christmas with Conner and hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Random Non Conner Post

Conner has taken over this blog since he was born and I wanted to blog about something non-Conner, but not much else is going on! We have done some "home improvements" over the past few weeks that I thought I would share. It's not very exciting, but oh well.

I had been asking Chris to spruce up our master bathroom mirror by framing it with molding. The day before Conner was born he finally did it for me. It is way better than the standard, boring mirror that was there!

We had nothing in our entry way (except for the mirror) and it was boring. So we added the wall saying, sconces, table and rug. And now I get to decorate the table with seasonal things!

Wall Saying and sconces

Table with seasonal decorations

Rug

And last but not least...we got a nice letter from our HOA reminding us to finish our front yard or else they would fine us $100 a day until it is done. So we poured the last part of the drive way!

BOO!

We had a Halloween Party yesterday with some friends. This year we decided that the adults didn't have to dress up, just the kids. So here is Conner-he's a ghost!

And here is a picture with Daddy before we put his costume on!

My boys are cute!

Eye Boogers

Since we brought Conner home from the hospital his right eye constantly has eye boogers in it and occasionally gets sealed shut. I have to take a Q-tip and clean it. So we called the pediatrician and they worked him in today. The doctor said that he has a blocked tear duct. It should open on it's own. If it doesn't open by age 1 they have to surgically go in and open it, but this doesn't happen often. And since we were there they did Conner's 2 week well
check and everything looks perfect!

At 2 weeks Conner:
~Weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces (25th percentile)
~Is still 19.5 inches long (50th percentile)
~Drinks 2 ounces every 3-4 hours
~Sleeps in about 4 hour increments
~Occasionally squeaks when he breathes
~Has smiled a few times (I know, it's the gas)
~Has made his mom and dad so happy!!!

And because I can, a photo!

The Labor Story

I love to read every ones labor stories and how their day went, so here is ours. It is kind of long, but I don't want to forget the details!

On September 11th, we went into the hospital at 5am. At about 6am I was hooked up to the machines and ready to go. At this point I was measuring 3 cm and was 90% effaced. Things progressed nicely and at about 10:30 we decided to get the epidural. I was really scared about getting it and was shaking. Chris held my hands while I got the shot and my body flinched when the shot went in. Chris said that watching me get the shot made him really nervous and that he started to sweat when I got the shot. About 15 minutes after I got the shot, I had a panic attack because I couldn't feel my body at all. I wanted Chris to calm me down so I asked him to sit me up and rub my back. When he tried to sit me up, I fell straight back because I had no feeling.

At 11am I was at 6cm and they decided to break my water, which I did not feel at all. At 12pm they decided to take me off the pitocin because Conners heart rate kept dropping dramatically when I would contract and they put me on oxygen. They also did an amniotic fluid transfer which is when they pump liquid around the placenta.

At about 1:30 I was 8cm and Conners heart rate was doing well so they hooked me back up to the pitocin. At 3:15pm I was at 10cm so they took me off the pitocin again. They allowed Conner to drop a little more and at 4pm they realized that Conner was face up. I kept pushing and at about 5pm they decided to try the vacuum to turn Conner around. This didn't work so they tried using forceps and they didn't work either. I continued pushing and at about 5:45pm they decided that I would need a c section. I got really scared and told myself that I was going to get him out. They called another doctor in and he helped push on my stomach. I kept telling Chris that I wanted to hear him (Conner) cry. I was so tired and drained at this point but I was determined to get Conner out, so I pushed with everything in me and at 5:54pm Conner was born!

He had his cord wrapped around his neck so as he came out the doctor had to push him back in a little bit to get the cord unwrapped. I couldn't feel the head or shoulders come out, but I could feel when his feet came out and I knew it was over! I tore a little on my own, but they had to cut me to help get him out. I had a level 3 episiotomy, but no c section!

It was such an incredible experience and we are so grateful that everything went as well as it did! The staff at IMC was amazing and we are grateful to them for the care that they gave our family.
Chris and I are truly thankful for the wonderful blessing that we have received!

The Gillespie Family

The new Gillespie Family.

Friday, September 11, 2009

Conner Glenn Gillespie was born on September 11th, 2009. He weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long. He was born at 5:54pm. We are in love with our new son, and want to thank everyone who stopped by, and sent their well wishes to us. The day went well, and even though he is only six pounds, he put up a heck of a fight, but we still love him very much. We will try and post more pics as soon as possible.

These are the marks from all the force they had to use on his poor little head to get him out.

Nothing is more sacred than a mother, and her first contact with her new baby.

The Moon and Cold Feet

Friday morning I had my membranes stripped and there was a full moon, so I was sure that I would go into labor Friday or Saturday. Well Mr. Moon was no help, I'm still pregnant! But I'm actually glad! It was nice to spend our last weekend childless relaxing and doing a lot of nothing. But I have to admit, I'm really freaked out right now!

I'm afraid of the actual labor and what my body is going to go through. I know that many women have done it, but I haven't. And it scares me. I kind of know what to expect and how things will work that day, but I'm afraid of how I will react to what goes on.

I'm afraid of life with a child. I can handle the diapers and feeding and all of that but it's the other stuff that scares me. The emotional stuff. Chris and I have a great relationship and I love the way it is and don't want it to change. This probably scares me the most!!! I know that things WILL change and have always known that they would. I'm just not prepared for that change yet.

Ready or not, it's happening though! I'm very excited to meet our son and expand our family. I know that Chris will be a great dad and I hope that I will be a good mom.
We go in Friday at 5am to be induced and we will keep you all posted!!!

It's crazy to look back at my pregnancy photos and think that I was "showing" here

And this is me at 38 weeks

**Note the glow in the 38 week photo. Something happened to our camera and hopefully we will be getting a new one soon!

The Nursery is Done!

We finished the nursery today and love the way the way it turned out! We took some pictures tonight and the lighting is awful, but I'm posting the pictures anyway. The colors are brown, tan, navy blue and maroon. And of course, it's baseball themed!

Baby Update

Conner will not be coming today! I had my weekly appointment today and I am still dilated to a 2 but I am 75% effaced. The doc still wants to induce me at week 39 if he has not come yet. But if he is a good boy and listens to his mother, he will come before then! Chris and I are very anxious for this little guy to join our family and just can't wait! His nursery will be done tomorrow and I will take pictures and post them then!

34 Week Photo

Here we are at 34 weeks pregnant! My stomach has dropped. During the pregnancy, I have felt a lot of pressue around the rib area. The past week the pressure has been a lot lower. I had a couple contractions or Braxton Hicks over the weekend, which are not fun at all!

I had my last baby shower over the weekend! It was a lot of fun and we are definately blessed to have such great friends and family because we were spoiled! Thank you to everyone that came! The nursery is coming along great and is almost finished! We are getting very anxious, even more anxious than we have been to meet this little guy and can't wait until he gets here!

My Monkey

Chris and I went to Fetal Fotos yesterday and did a 4D photo shoot of Conner. He is so squished in my belly that it was hard to get good shots, but we poked him around a bit and he moved for us! I think that he kind of looks like a monkey so for now that's what I'm calling him!

He is a boy for sure!
